Every month we celebrate a different virtue. Celebrate each virtue by reflecting on its importance. Here are some examples:

At the end of the year, primary students and teachers put together this display to showcase the celebration of all the different virtues of the month.

The POWER of visuals in the classroom

Throughout my experiences, I have learned about the importance of using visuals in the classroom. For example, bulletin boards in the classroom can be transformed into a teaching tool if used correctly. They should highlight collaboration between the student and the teacher. Therefore, student work should be showcased in order to make students involved in the learning process. Bulletin boards can also be created as a method of communication between the teacher and the student.

Here is an example of a bulletin board I created with a Junior and Senior Kindergarten class. This bulletin board reflected student's art work. Beside this visual representation was the success criteria: we are learning to express our ideas using different art techniques and materials and we are learning to write our ideas using different strategies.

Here is an example of student work being reflected inside the classroom. The grade three and four students really felt proud of their work.

Here is a visual representation created for a fairytale unit I taught. I created this with grade three students. During this unit, we would draw each element on the blackboard after we discussed and learned about it. This was our final product.

A day at the Lego League Tournament

On November 30th 2013, I had the opportunity to experience a Lego League Tournament for middle and elementary school students. It took place at Emery Collegiate Institute, where Sammy Benyamin kindly invited everyone in our AQ course (Integration of Information & Computer Technology) to this event. I was simply amazed at the amount of work these students put into their Lego creations. The collaboration, the creativity, the communication, and the elements of critical thinking involved in these creations was unbelievable. It truly highlighted 21st century learning. This activity made several curriculum connections such as science, math, drama and included technology as well. It was evident that through this tournament students felt empowered and proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations to all the students that participated!!
